I'm about to CLA my first shutter (Wollensak Optimo) and I've been warned to not use naptha as it reacts badly with the vulcanite/hard rubber shutter blades. So now what do I use?
Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

You win the cupie doll, ever S.K.Grimes will not CLA Optimo shutters. Take lots of picture and keep very detailed notes.

DO NOT FLOOD CLEAN THE SHUTTER.

You can clean the metal parts with naptha AFTER you remove the shutter and aperture blades.

Vulcanite blades can and will swell and bind-up from the outgassing from grease. I will suggest Super-Lube : clear, synthetic, Teflon, no outgassing, non-toxic. You should be able to find it at any hardware / auto store.

Good luck with it.
