I was just given an older Schneider Componon 105mm f5.6 enlarging lens. This is the older, chrome version. I'm trying to figure out the mount size. It's just a hair larger than 32mm (won't fit in my 32mm lensboard nor will my 32mm retaining rings fit) and definitely smaller than 39mm.

I didn't think there was anything larger than 32mm until you got to 39mm. Any ideas?

In the respective Schneider data sheets I do not even find any lens with M32, but instead M32.5 mount.

The M32.5 has 0.5mm pitch

the M32 likely 0.75mm

OK, first, I was using 32mm as shorthand for the common 32.5mm mount. What confused (confuses) me is that the lens would not fit the lensboards I had marked as 32mm.

So I got out my sliding caliper - which I should have done first. The outside diameter of the lens threads measures 32.46mm (converting from 1.278 inches). Close enough to 32.5mm to call it a match. The lensboard (a "stock" Beseler board) measures 30.5mm. Also, the jam nuts I had that I assumed were 32.5mm (too big for 25mm and too small for 39mm) do not fit. So must have been a bad assumption.

Easy enough to take the rotary tool and enlarge the lensboard. I'll have to keep an eye out for a jam nut / retaining ring. The Schneider adapter on B&H is special order (and expensive). The customphototools adapter is less expensive.

Thanks for the help.

It may have been for US lenses, eg. Wollensak Raptars and Kodak Ektars some of which are about M30x0.5 albeit in imperial measurements, not metric.

That might make sense. I'll have to dig around and see if I have an old Wolly here (I do have a 50mm, but that's a 25mm mount). In any case, I've enlarged the opening on the board I have. And I dug deep in the cabinet and found a 32.5 mount ring on another lens.
