What point and shoot for a relative who just wants to point and shoot?

A case of disposable cameras. Seriously.
IF they were cheap I'd so that but B&W disposable cameras are at least $9.00 US dollars each up to $13.00 each . So...a case of 10 is at least 100.00.

If this doesn't pan out..then maybe but for now, I roll my own film at about $1.5 each roll and do my own B&W developing for pennies. Add to that a $9.00 camera and it's a no brainer.

Konica Pop or U-Mini are about as simple as they come. The Pop has the better lens, the U-Mini is basically a reloadable disposable.

I have an Olympus, can't remember the model, that has a 35mm and 70mm setting (but not a zoom). Integral flash, drop in loading (if I recall correctly). Weatherproof. Hasn't been used in years but worked last time used. I can't ship until next week but yours for shipping if you want it.

Alternatively, I have a Ricoh FF-90d. A very good 5-element 35mm prime lens. Drop in loading. $15 plus shipping.

Both of these use lithium batteries. You might prefer ones that use AA batteries.

If you don't find a Olympus Mju-ii or Nikon l35af within budget here are others with decent fixed or short-zooms to try for;

Pentax pc35af
Nikon l35af2
Olympus mju-i
Fujifilm zoomdate 2.8 'silvi' - great camera!
Fujifilm 'tiara' zoom
Nikon af600
Konica A4 - probably the best bet.

Most of the fixed lens Canon sureshots are ok but have slow max shutter speeds.

Regarding batteries. CR123 are fine batteries and last well, but prices really vary, don't buy them on the high st (order online instead).

Thanks very much for your generosity but I've gotten two now so I think I'm fine. I really appreciate it though.

I'm amazed at the amount of point and shoots from this era. I feel a little sad that it's gone and I missed it.

Good idea, I'll check out the local goodwill.
However, I did buy a cheap Fuji DL-1000 from ebay as a start.
Unless you are looking for something smaller, your Fuji DL-1000 should be just fine. I use one of these, and it's just as good if not better than most other consumer AF cameras of its period. The lens is sufficiently sharp, its AF system is dependably accurate, fool-proof drop-in loading, and the viewfinder is easy to look through. For a reliable, easy to operate point and shoot camera, this is all you really need.

Still sell the pentax iq 150 cameras, we picked up a big order of them that were in someone's warehouse somewhere and started selling them again. they're a solid camera, beefy, too, for what they are. Auto everything and reasonable size.

The Goodwill site sometimes has a box or grab bag of cameras for cheap.
Untested of course, usually not an itemized list. A gamble but cheap.

Goodwill's auction site is shipgoodwill.sometihing

I am sorry but I feel for the application something in the dark side would be better?
