What kind of plastic is used to make large format holders?

Some of mine are some sort of hardwood .
One type I have seems to be mostly metal .
Other's , some sort of plastic .

So I guess it varies .

Depends. Even darkslides have changed plastics over the years. ABS and styrene are common but not universal.

I heard from someone who worked at holder facility in Burbank CA, ABS and Cycolac.

This is a really good question. It is definitely a high impact material. It's very stable doesn't warp or bow when warm. The holders have a smooth surface, My guess would be a blend of some sort of styrenic and possible polycarbonate. High Impact polystrene, ABS. Doesn't look like it has a significant amount of glass fiber or you would be able to see it. Doesn't mean it's not filled with glass or mineral. This is a link to one Covestro's (formerly Bayer) PC/ABS blends there's thousands of different concoctions out there.

The darkslides almost look like a old thermoset like Bakelite or melamine filled with some sort of mineral or fiber. It's not an ordinary plastic.
