I took possession of some type of lens...it states on the front element: D.O.Industries 135mm F4.5 and supposedly fits on a copal #3s shutter (which i don't have)

Any ideas on its designed usage?

# 1 is more likely.

If you bought it via eBay from eBay seller lazyjays it probably came from a long roll camera (46 mm, most likely) as used by school photographers.

Good luck, have fun,

Dan

the seller is "qualitycamera" and had an image of it screwed onto the copal 3.... It was sitting there at the end w/no bids on it....so I said "what the hell"

My guess is an enlarging lens. I think D.O.Industries is Fuji. I bought a 150/4.5 D.O.Industries lens under the same sort of conditions (nobody else bid on it, so I figured what the ..., can't go wrong with $5!) I have tried the lens on my speed graphic, and the results are surprisingly good.

hopefully, I can use it on something...my 4x5 would be nice! Will have to find a shutter for it though.

This 330225433553 one? You're right, he says it fits a #3S.

Not an enlarging lens. I still say most probably a lens for a long roll camera.

A poisoned gift if free because of the cost/scarcity of #3S shutters and the lens' likely relatively low specifications (at even odds, a tessar type). Your only hope is that it was originally made to fit a #1 and has bushings to fit a #3S. Don't laugh, I've seen a few lenses, but not from D.O.I., roughly like that.
