Does any of you recognize this device? What is this for? 35mm slides?

As posted above, that is the size of the slide mounts.
You can use this to view standard 35mm slides, as well as slide film in 2" x 2" mounts from film in these sizes: 126, 828, 127 ("super slides") and 110 (if mounted in 2" x 2" mounts).
