I have seen this mentioned from time to time and I can't figure out what it is. I only have two schneider lenses and there is nothing wrong with either.

It refers to the flaking of the black paint used on the bevels of elements in lenses. The purpose of the paint is to reduce internal reflections in the lens. I don't think it is particular to Schneider lenses, but the construction of the Super-Angulon and some of the other Schneider wide lenses makes this problem more visible than it is on other lenses that have more cylindrical elements.

It is largely a cosmetic issue. At worst it slightly reduces the contrast of the lens.

I will steal the line that someone else here (probably blansky) used before. Inflammation of the Schneider. :surprised:

It usually looks more like bubbles than flaking paint in my experience. I have two Schneider lenses and a Fuji and the Fuji is the only one that has Schneideritis. Go figure.

Its just something to while away the time discussing with other lf'ers on afternoons when the wind is too stiff to set up your bellows camera!

Should be called Boyeritis. I have a heap of Boyer lenses and they all have it. Possible exceptions are recent purchases still in transit, but I wouldn't bet that they they don't have it. The Boyers in my travel kit shoot very well in spite of their ailment.
