I read a few threads about their 8x10 issues and figured i was ok because i only shoot their 35mm and 120. Today i loaded some kb25 in my camera and i noticed the my display said 400 iso so i manualy changed it to 25. I received 37 shots on the roll and when i went to spool it i noticed that there was no DX code on it and i had to almost force the spool out of the canister because it was loaded with apx 5 extra frames of film. Is there no quaility control at Efke and are they about to go under? I have 2 bricks of there 35mm and 120 and i dont think i want to buy their film anymore. Also i went to their website and it stated the they didnt renew it so the site is gone. Has anyone had issue with Efke and do you think they are about to shut down? How can they allow this poor quailty product to be released? I use to enjoy shooting their 25 but thats it for me unless they shape up.

QC was an issue for me a year ago with KB 25 in 120 size. I love the film; it performs well in Rodinal and P'Cat HD and I hit it dead-on with times on the first try, but there were pieces of the emulsion missing when I went to print. And, no, I've never had this problem with any other film from the big four (Kodak, Fuji, Ilford & Agfa).

I'd like to buy it again, but you have to take 2-3 images of everything to make sure you get a good one and it's not inexpensive film anymore. Might as well spend the money on Pan-F, Plus-X, Fp-4, etc.

In fact, ADOX does not exist as a real company. It is just a name, bought by Fotoimpex to sell rebadged Efke products.

My piece of advice with efke in 35mm: buy bulk film and a watson Loader. Like that you have no DX problem, cause you have to set it manually.

Concerning the QC of emulsion, clearly it is not as efficient, but I never had any problem with emulsions, you just have to develop with care

FWIW, I bought some Efke 35mm from Freestyle about a year ago. The ad said it was DX coded, but it wasn't -- or more precisely, the cartridge was DX-coded with the wrong film speed, but that DX code had been taped over with black tape at the factory. This could certainly be an issue for those with DX-only cameras. (I've got a couple like this, but fortunately, I loaded the first roll into my one and only camera that reads the DX code, displays the ISO speed, and enables an override, so I became quickly aware of the issue.)
