This is for 8mm ,16mm, APS, 110, 127, 35mm, MF, LF, ULF, ...

I joined APUG as a happy SLR 35mm user in January 2007. Since then I have set up a darkroom in my home and taken up shooting, developing and printing black & white. I have also add back in MF photography.

i know that there others out there in APUG land experiencing the similar things?

A start in medium format and a great place to ask questions and learn. Now I just need APUG to give me an enlarger that can do 6x7.

Lots of good/great information and discussion and arguments...and TONS of entertainment! It is my alternative to TV. I don't even own a TV set, so when I get home from work, I settle down with my laptop, APUG, and streamed hockey on Internet radio instead.

A community where I don't have to explain why I don't just shoot digital and then desaturate in Photoshop if I love B&W so much...

APUG has GIVEN me soooo much! I didn't technically understand photgraphy at all until I got here. I learned about darkroom. I learned everything.

A connection to the rest of the World where I am meeting other people, sharing ideas and finding the materials and methods to do the work.

Apug has given me back my passion for photography. Lots of interesting people and a few new friends too. I can't even begin to list what I have learned here.

Knowledge and a lot of learning, entertainment and good times.
A great place to discuss about film photography (and related).

When I first deiscovered APUG I was still using my Nikon D100 but I had also bought myself a Rolleicord and a couple of other film cameras.

Reading posts here and looking at the galleries made me realise that going back to using film 100% was a viable option. Within a few months I had bought a Bronica ETRS followed by a Mamiya RB67 with various other lower valued purchases expanding my film camera collection to about thirty. I now find it hard to believe that for a long time (probably about twenty years) I only owned one camera!

If I had never found APUG I think I would still have bought and used a few film cameras but I also think I may have spent (wasted?) a lot more money on digital upgrades.

The 'Darkroom Portraits' thread also convinced me that I could have my own darkroom and the various threads on camera building prompted me to build a couple myself and modify some Polaroid cameras.

I try to give as much help as I can by answering questions but I think I have received a lot more than I have given.

Meeting up with quite a few excellent photographers, especially at Bill's Photostock gatherings. A renewed respect for formats smaller than 4x5, through the excellent examples in the Gallery. A community where I don't have to hear how much easier it would be if I used digital instead of film every five minutes. A place to ask questions and learn about some of the gnarly old cameras I've picked up, from the days when Real Men machined steel instead of stamping aluminum.

APUG has given me a safe place to show my beginning work and get critique. I have learned so much! I can't believe I've only been here a year. I've learned about printing and setting up my darkroom. I've learned about every camera I've mentioned here. I'don't have to defend my love of film. That is the best part of this place. I have had others share equipment they no longer use and I know someday I will be able to do the same. I hope to be able to get to one of the gatherings so I can meet in person some of the great photographers I've met here.

I think it's very clear what APUG has given me. I have received encouragement from other photographers who don't ask "Is that digital?" APUG is a reason for why I do what I do. I don't think that I could've gotten to where I am without support from my fellow APUGers.

Comraderie(sp?). That's the main thing. Being able to shoot the breeze virtually with people who are of like mind when it comes to photography.

Sure, it doesn't help with my NAS, since everyone usually becomes a facilitator when I start thinking about purchasing another piece of gear, but, you gotta take everything, not just cherry pick things, I guess.
