What has happened to JD Photochem in Quebec, Canada? Their website is down and I don't see their auctions on ebay. Have they gone out of business?

They were the only company I could find online in Canada that sold raw photographic chemicals! I don't know where to get them now!

Thanks,
Rob.

Hi Rob,

When I ordered some stuff from there about a month ago, Claire said the website was being updated. Maybe they're in the middle of it right now?

The "chemicals" link points to another URL, Dead Link Removed. Right now (10:25 AM US Eastern time on 8/1/06), that site is responding for me, but it's slow. Perhaps they've had some server problems and are still recovering; or perhaps there's router trouble that's blocking your access and slowing mine down, or that blocked you but has improved a bit since you posted. In any event, I'd suggest you just try again later.

It's up and running fine here now (via the jdphotochem address)

I remember from last summer, because it's essentially a one person show, when they take their vacation, you obviously can't get in touch with them...

8 years later, I can tell you that they are closed. I live a 20 minute drive from the place. I spoke with the lady and she told me that it was a question of lack of demand. How many people still mix their own chemicals? In her day job, she is an industrial chemist.

And it is still sad, I know I probably only ordered stuff from then every few years, but still appreciated being able to get chemicals to mix up.

I actually had a list starting to get ready to order when I want to the web site and found they were closed. (this was also several years ago now.

Ironically, the problem getting chemicals has meant that I tend to use more of the prepacked stuff, rather than play around, and that is after spending good money on an electronic scale.

I used to order from JD, and was sad when they closed down. I've been ordering from Nymoc more recently, and have had good service. You have to phone them to ask if they have what you want. As an analogue kinda person, I enjoy actually talking to someone rather than clicking through screen after screen. I'm waiting for an order right now so I can do more gum printing, and try out Obsidian Aqua.
