What fuel Leica hatred...

this hatred shown at both sides of the gear spectrum
there are people that dislike leica users
and there are people who dislike lo-fi users ( lomographers or holga users )
equally as much ... its a tribal thing

And I like to unite these factions against one common enemy.

You are welcome.

Beautifully said! My eyeglasses are molded plastic progressive lenses, cost 700 bucks for a pair with not fancy frames. Plastic Holgites and Leicanutz Unite!

Have YOU ever met a person who uses his Leica as a status symbol?
yes, and I have met people who use hasselblads and rollieflexes and ebony's as status symbols too. haven't you ?
not everyone who uses these cameras is a difficult person and uses them as a status thing. plenty of people actually use these cameras and love them and make amazing photographs with them without bragging about what kind of gear they use.

Unless it is satire, in which case I applaud you, I think your post is an object lesson for why some people find some Leica users insufferable.

When I was working in the camera store, we would get a few of those types. And there were a few who while not wearing it as a status symbol, couldn't shut up about the fact that they had a Leica and took pictures with a Leica. It's a very good camera, it does what it is intended to do in the way it was intended. But it isn't the second coming of Jesus.

Ok, interesting thread. I've always thoughts it would be nice to own one, but as this is a hobby, I don't have the funds.

What I want to know, is the R series looked at with the same level of, well, division?
I don't think the R-series draws nearly as much attention, because they were never as popular or as distinctive as the M series. You can pick up an R-series body for (relatively) very little money these days - what will kill you is trying to get lenses for it because they're really popular for adapting to digital cameras.

There is no way that I would ever own a Leica. If I did, then I'd be unable to blame my terrible photos on my gear.

Actually, I have a really nice Mamiya 7II, in addition to Nikon rangefinders. So it would seem that I, and I alone, am responsible for any crappy photos that I take.

Yeah! I've been having a look recently. A reasonable R5 can be had for $500.... A 50mm summilux..... yikes!

nah. just get whatever you want and don't worry about internet people who have gear and / or skill envy.

Not everything, just the stuff I'm not using! But there is a whole heck a lot of that.
I need to flush a bunch of stuff. I'm too lazy. Beautiful M7. Good time to sell, prices are up, up, up. Analog stuff is being gobbled up.

Yup, I'm 'casually' looking for an M3, and every one that I have any interest in sells in a matter of a few days. And even (serviced) double strokes are going for nearly $2K!

In an odd sort of way, isn't this a "good" thing? If people are buying film cameras, might that make manufacturers release more film? Just a thought. I remember a time where audiophile equipment sold for less than it does now, but demand has driven up prices to some extent.

Apparently, there s a six month wait if you need records pressed.

I'm gonna get me one of theme Leikeas cameras. First, i need to get my bespoke shoes and suits so I will know if the colors clash. Do Leikeas cameras come in mauve and lime green to match my shoes?

That is a nice looking camera. Why green leather rather than the standard black covering?

My parents have a Werra rangefinder (East German) with original green/olive leatherette - just a bit darker and drabber than Huss's camera. It's an extremely elegant looking camera. Perhaps the style monsters of Wetzlar will outdo it someday (ducks and runs).

Here's a collector's Werra set (not my picture, my folks only have the basic camera and the wonderful cap/hood):

Huss, I see that you have 40mm on M3. Is the error too big, you are using whole finder as a frame?

Correct, the whole finder works really well. But honestly I just use the 50 framelines, and know there will be a little more all around. Same when I use a 40 on my other Ms

Nice! I think silver is a really good 'base' to set off other colour leathers, not just black!
