What format, and what cams can do it?

hi all,
i'm currently scanning my grandfather's (born 1920!) medium format negatives and keep coming across negatives in this nifty format. can someone tell me what ratio this is, and what kind of camera(s) can do it? i love the look, it feels like something between a 6x9 negative and a 1x3 panoramic.

No - if it were, for instance, 616 or 116 film, the image area would be 2.5" wide, which compares to the 2.25" width of 120 or 620 film.

The image area measures 2.5 inches wide, 4.5 inches long

Googled and it appears to have been 616 film, as you said, which expired in 1984. Pity, really wanted to shoot this format!

Not quite as oblong, but there is 6x9.

It could also have been 116 film.

If the ratio is of interest, Horseman makes a 6x12 back for 120 film, which is close to the 2.5: 4.5 ratio of your images.

There are others. To name a few, in alphabetical order, Cambo, Linhof, Sinar. The Sinars are discontinued and parts are no longer available. I b'lieve that Linhof's Techno Rollex is still available new. $$$$.
