The contrast is from scanning or bad exposures. 4x5 Kodachrome is a sight to behold. Not much around as I have seen but a few sheets in my life.

Definitely Kodachrome sheet film. It was great while it lasted.

Wow those color photos look as fresh as the day they were taken. I'm wondering if the photos are taken with BW film with one of those cameras that do the separation inside the camera? The camera yields 3 BW negs then it's printed in color with a dye transfer process. I know that the old Technicolor process was done in a similar way.
