What extension to use a 450mm portrait lens Toyo 4x5 G

Hello,

I bought recently a wonderful Nikon 450mm lens Copal 3 to go with a Toyo 4x5 inch and 8x10.
The lens on the toy 4x5 inch seems to reach the limit of the bellow extension meaning will be difficult to use it except on infinity.

Is there a way to extend the bellow of the toyo 4x5?

Any suggestion are more than welcome.

See if you can find a top hat lensboard for Toyo boards. They might have a single extension, or they can come with extension rings and lens plates at the end in common sizes (0, 1, 3). I have one for Linhof, so if that’s easier to find, you might combine it with a Linhof-Toyo lensboard adapter, if that’s an option.

If you can find them, an extension rail, a second bellows and an auxiliary standard. If there is a Toyo distributor in the UK you might want to ask them. It will all depend on which model camera you have.

It is a Toyo view 45GII.
That could be an option as I already have the rail extension.
What do you mean by an auxiliary standard? would this item on Ebay work?

I've also a Toyo 810, would it not be easier to find a reducing back?

PMFJI, yes, that's what Bob meant. It goes between two bellows.

As long as it mounts to your rail it will work. I don’t know if all Toyo cameras had the same rail type.

If you have the 8x10” camera and can find a reducing back and don’t mind carrying the bigger camera around, that’s another option.

Toyo makes a "long bellows" (750mm) for lenses with a FL greater than 360mm.which will work for a lens of FL 450mm You can find these new or used on ebay. Depending on what you have, you may need an extension rail which you can also find on ebay. I purchased a new 900mm bellows from Rudy on ebay (ebconline or something like that) that I use with 360 to 760mm lenses on a Robos.

Hello Dan fromm, I've ordered the support extension and should work with the wide angle bellow, should be enough to cover the 450mm.
The second option I'll see later is a custom made 750mm long bellow. I just need to find how to collect the front inner/outer size and rear inner/outer for the Toyo 45GII view. I'm not at the right location until mid August.

Any suggestion about the front inner/outer and rear inner/outer sizes?

Toyo has three frame sizes for their 4x5 cameras.
The oldest one was a simple metal frame like an inverted lens board. The bellows were glued to it.
The second type was made of plastic, with the bellows being held with screws.
The latest type is similar to the second type, but the bellows are slightly wider. The frame has notches only on two sides to attach to the camera.
All of these can be used on any Toyo monorail camera, but the plastic ones are a bit difficult to mount on the older Toyo D series cameras.
If you are ordering bellows, you will also need frames from a scrap bellows. Let me know if you can't find them locally.
