What ever happened to Simon Galley?

I wonder what ever happened to Simon Galley after the business reorganization. Do you suppose he retired to an island in the Caribbean and has been sipping pina coladas ever since he disappeared from apug/photrio?

Wouldn't you? Probably ran off and grabbed him a hot young blonde while he still could, and had the money to do it. As for me, I'd grab my hot young blond and run off and chase tornadoes in Oklahoma.

It would be quite normal business practice for the agreement for the sale of the company to include a clause that the retiring directors/shareholders should refrain from any form of competition in a similar business for a stated period of time, and this would probably include writing or public comment on such business. I believe that he was interested in photography outside his business, so hopefully he is now happily retired and enjoying this, and perhaps even still reading the threads here.

Just a tiny property management company, there's hundreds in this country, usually just to manage the shared facilities of the residents of a development (I'm the director of a couple myself). Good to know he's still around, but it's not a trading business, so let's respect his privacy.

I hope Simon's retirement buy-out included lots and lots of Delta 3200 .
I wonder if he is watching or, even better, for fun posting outrageous things here under a pseudonym .
If you are here Simon, "Start a Conversation" with me - I won't tell!
In any event, I certainly wish him well.

Harman Technical Support occasionally posts, but I haven't seen any lately. I miss Simon's posts, but I can understand why he is no longer here. Maybe he has a non-compete or non-disclosure agreement. Even if he didn't, I suspect he would be inundated with requests for Ilford information and technical support.

I find it interesting that even years after his departure, his post are quoted as scripture by many.

Harman might well have insisted he signs a NDA, though they cannot lawfully stop him posting about his hobby here as long as he doesn't reveal anything about Harman's operations. However, he'd likely be inundated with questions so I can see why he might stay away....or post under another name.

At least we can rest assured he's alive and we have no reason to assume he's anything other than well.

I think Simon would be a subscriber, though. Unless looking like a member is his cover.

Definitely quip of the week!

I admit to doing a little friendly stalking where Mr. Galley is concerned. Only here on Photrio - a trip to England is outside my budget! - just to see if he's stopped by. I truly believed he'd show up to give me grief over a dastardly cricket incident some time back, and was rather disappointed not to get a heaping serve of British wit over that one.

Haha....I'm not Simon....in fact I do post under my "real" name here. I didn't realise my profile was "locked down"...I'll have a look at that because I don't see any reason for it. Unless I locked it a couple of years ago when I left APUG for almost a year due to certain unpleasant characters who are no longer about.

I meet Simon twice in person( two Ilford tours) and he was certainly the right person for the job he did for Ilford here on Photrio and I am sure the same applied when meeting his business contacts in person. I think we tend to confuse that "right person" for the job with someone who is/was a personal friend or contributor to the forum in the way most of us are contributors. Once he "sold his interest" in Ilford which was inevitable then surely he was unlikely to remain a presence. My former GP( General Practitioner - a doctor for non UK members) was approachable in his professional capacity and both caring and friendly during consultations. Once he retired I did not expect him to pay visits to his old GP practice or keep in touch with his former patients. Medicine was his job and I was not his friend or even occasional acquaintance

Despite mentioning that he took a few pictures was Simon's role any different from what I have described above. I see no reason to believe so. I wish him well whatever he is doing. I do not expect to hear from him again

Simon Galley is off somewhere touring and taking photographs with his Hasselblads using Ilford and Kodak traditional films.

I met Simon on a factory tour and also Pentaxuser, I had a few discussions with him after at trade shows. Like many of us he had an aging parent(s), a topic that came up in one discussion, I was about to returned from living abroad at the time to look after my mother who had dementia.

It also needs to be remembered that the Directors of Ilford/Harman technology had invested their own money in the company to take it out of Voluntary Receivership (equivalent to Chap 9 in the US), some of the Directors who left were older than Simon. That can create an awkward situation were one or two want to retire and realise their stake in the company and they may well have re-mortgaged their houses 10 years earlier to save the company. Hence the shake up when the company was bought 3½ years ago.
