Any idea what this fits? It should be a mask for an enlarger, to allow masking of the light from 4x5 down to whatever size. Any ideas what enlarger it's for or how it attaches?

Looks very useful, but not sure if it'll go on my Omega D2.

Where would this go? right below the negative carrier?

I've had issues using 6x12 negatives in my 4x5 glass carrier. I worked around it, but this seems like a more elegant solution.

Yes, that would be a very useful item when used with the glass carrier. I wish they had made that for the D5500. I had to make a separate little mask for each format (when using glass).

Hey Dale. That was my thinking.

So this goes below the negative carrier and acts like a mask - a bladed easel for negatives essentially.

It looks just like the one I have in my Saunders. Great for glass carriers and odd size negs.

My Durst has something similar and I find it indispensable when used with the glass carrier. The one pictured is not a durst and therefore can offer no help.

It looks identical to the masking accessory that came with my Omega D6, except newer .

I expect it will be useful when I use my 4x5 glass carrier. It has, however, already been useful when I have printed 6x4.5 negatives with a 6x6 carrier.

I'm haunting eBay as we speak for a reasonably priced 6x4.5 carrier that will fit an Omega D2/D5/D6.

Does anyone know whether the Omega masking device will work with a Beseler glass carrier for the 45M series enlargers?

It might, with a lot of adaptation. The big problem would be that the Beseler 45 carriers are much larger than Omega or Saunders carriers, as are the respective negative stages.
If it is a Saunders mask (that's what it looks like to me), it might be adaptable to an Omega D, but it would take a lot of fiddling, I think.

The advantage of using a masking frame is simple: if you are cropping an image, it reduces flare (as a lens hood would do on a camera) since extraneous light is not being projected.

In addition, it reduces light spill from the enlarged image; let's you use a smaller negative format than the negative carrier opening (i.e., 6x8 on a 6x9 carrier).

You can see a photo of the Saunders/LPL version on eBay. Or at least a version of it if there are multiple. The model there looks slightly different in regards to where the screws are located. If it is an LPL and you can't use it, let me know .
