I just picked up a Summarit and have not used any others and would like opinions on whether this looks like a good example or if it would be advised to get a CLA done on it. Please give me any input! Also, I intend on shooting mostly B&W and these are just my quick "test shots".

Summarits are/were bult in several focal lengths over many years...

Which are you asking about?

P.S. & OT: Can't believe the "no cruising" sign! Is that common in the US?

Oh my I can't believe I neglected to add anymore info. It is an original 50mm 1,5 in screw mount. I do not know the exact manufacturing date at the moment. These were taken with my III as my M3 needed emergency maintenance =(

I have no clue if that's common, it's the only one I remember seeing! Unfortunately though, it is a fact that people get joy out of riding around town for the hell of it.

OT answer, yes unfortunately it is common. Along with "NO SKATEBOARDS", bicycles and whatever other normal thing someone believes to be a social nuisance. Americans tend to be a rather intolerant group for a society that values individual freedoms.

softshock, can you see any haze in the lens?

Yeah look at the irony... Many people whom feel entitled. This Summarit does not have perfect glass, but even so, I think the photos I've produced so far are nice and am not sure if it's an absolute necessity to spend more money. I do also value others input with this lens. I understand that it tends to be slightly softer and more flare attracting than others.

I think those look fine. Older lenses should cleaned. I also use Sherry K from the golden touch. But sometimes I use a repairman from canada. right now I'm having a sticking shutter looked at for my Leica IIIf self timer red dial and a ziess ikonta c. The Summarit 5cm 1,5 in screw mount I had has been cleaned. But I felt it did not produce enough contrast. I sold mine and bought a summicron 5cm. I like it better. I also keep an elmar 5cm and use it a lot. I also had a cooke 5cm lens And this is a lens that's worth alot but I didn't feel was made as well or produced as nice of image as a summicron.

OT continued:

I don't know if we're less tolerant than other societies or not, but I do think that we adults need to remember that we were kids once, and generally, kids are not out to do harm. Still, kids can fail to see, and with some of them, to care about, the problems their activities can cause. A bunch of skateboarders grinding and jumping can create a hazard for others when their boards go flying, for instance. And there's the aspect of toleration leading to a lawsuit if anyone (including a skater) gets hurt.

Cruising used to be a popular thing for young folks to do, going up and down a street on Friday and Saturday nights to show off cars, hang out in parking lots-generally socialize. The one local to me was E Street in San Bernardino. Kids came from all over to cruise E Street. A two mile long slow moving traffic jam. The anti-cruising ordinance put an end to it.

There could easily be a couple thousand people congregated, in cars and along the street. There were of course problems from it: littering, including broken bottles, some vandalism, occasional fights, etc., but overall was a mellow scene given the number of people involved.

The ordinances are unlikely to be enforced unless there is actual "cruising" going on. If I went up and down a street several times looking for an address, for example, it would be unlikely I'd get ticketed. There is the question of free association and free movement, which I doubt has been addressed legally.

The rationale is the "public nuisance" aspect. If bad elements get involved, i.e., gangs, that makes sense. And I can see the point of view of business owners who would find damage the morning after. But most kids were just harmlessly having fun.

Maybe our society has just changed. We're less uptight in some ways and more uptight in others.

Really loving my Summarit 5cm f1.5 M Mount Chrome. Even found a lens hood and cap for it.

Did you get yourself the XOONS? I got a XOONS, Summarit Cap, GGr, Blue, & RH (Deep Infrared) filter when I got my Summarit.
