What do I need to use Fuji 5x4 instant film?

I'm aware that there was a Polaroid 5x4 (or 4x5 if you like) holder for their instant film which is not now available.

If I wanted to use the Fuji version, what do I need to hold it? Does it still fit the Polaroid holder or is there a Fuji specific hoilder?

I believe you need a Fuji PA-45 film holder for the Fuji instant 4x5 film. I don't know if any of the polaroid backs take it. Getting one second hand is a problem - not many, if any, about, and I can't find anywhere in the UK that sells it. Fuji UK says they were going to sell it at the end of last year - anyone know how to get hold of one in the UK?

I believe that Fuji specifically designed the packaging of their 4x5 instant film to fit into a Polaroid 545 holder that was designed for Type 55 and the like.

For the Fuji instatnt 4x5 film you need to use a polaroid 550 holder (not a 545) or a Fuji PA-45

Unfortunately not. 550 or PA-45, as the other posters have mentioned. Fuji 4x5" instant film is pack film, not sheet film.

Fuji film holder

I'm using a polaroid 545i pro film holder and have used it extensively with type 55 polaroid which unfortunately is no longer available. I have been using the same holder with fuji Acros 4x5 quickloads with absolutely no problems. So, if you are talking about single sheets in 4x5 quickloads, the polaroid holder works fine. Alternatively, you can just buy a Fuji quickload holder.

You need the dedicated Fuji holder.

IMO, go for a 3x4 packfilm holder for 4x5 instead (Polaroid 405 holder or clone thereof). It is so much cheaper (about 4x), and still gives you a 3x4 picture, which is decent.

If you need 4x5 prints, though, the Fuji holder is the only way to use the Fujiroid 4x5.

Thanks for all of your input. I think I get it now. I was wondering if the Quickload type holders from Fuji and Kodak would work but apparently not.

I don't have any immediate need for 5x4 Polaroid type materials but I only just realised Fuji was making it in that size.

I have a 3x4 size Packfilm holder for my RB67 so I may give that a go first.

Eh? There seems a lot of conflicting opinions here - which is it specifically for Fuji instant 5x4 film?

I would like to use 5x4 instant film with a pinhole camera I have that only takes a 5x4 filmholder.

Does the 3x4 packfilm fit a 5x4 holder, if so, what is that holder?

From information posted here and other information I have found myself, I think Fuji 5x4 film is in pack film format similar to the smaller 3x4 size pack film

This will fit in Polaroid's 550 film holder or Fuji's PA45 holder.

For the smaller pack film in a 5x4 film holder size, use a Polaroid 405 holder.

For FP-100B, FP-100C, and FP3000B use the Fuji PA-145 or a Polaroid 405 holder. The holder is smaller than a 4x5 back, but it fits a 4x5 camera.

For FP-100B45, FP-100C45, and the like you'd use a Fuji PA-45 or Polaroid 550 back. These fit snugly on most cameras and too tightly on others. There is no wiggle room or play like on a 145/405.

I should add that if you don't have any experience loading these backs you should look up a video tutorial. I'm not saying it's rocket science, but the "tab" comes out a different slot than the film does and getting that all sorted out cost me a few shots. Then I had someone show me what I was supposed to do and I slapped myself on the forehead.

The Polaroid 405 holder has the same exterior dimensons as the Polaroid 550 holder. Both work in 4x5 cameras. The difference is the opening for the photo. The 405 is smaller. The 405 holder came with an overlay that showed the 3 1/4" x 4 1/4" area of the print on the 4x5 ground glass.

I have both 550 and PA45 and think the Fuji holder has a slight edge over the 550. You pay a premium for the 4X5 pack film, but the sharp color material, and the reclaimable negative you get if you are willing to work on it, are very nice and I think worth it. But if you already have the 405 holder, by all means use it with the smaller pack film, because you will save a lot of money.

I was as confused as you at first, as I thought the Fuji material was a 4X5 sheet film, but it is not.

They were due to go on sale in the UK in January 2010. I bought mine direct from Fuji in Japan last year, but Robert White are offering them for sale at £245+VAT, linky below.
