What combo of film and digital do you travel with?

I have Minolta and Sony A mount, Sigma, and Pentax. I usually travel by air with either a Minolta 600xi and Sony A700 or a Pentax PZ 1 and K2000, normally a 3 lens kit, 17 to 50 for the cropped body, a 28 to 105 or the film body and a 70 to 300 for both. I like to travel somewhat light, but change to Sony A900 and Minolta 9, take a 28 to 85, 50mm prime and 70 to 300. Don't know if taking the full frame and the Minolta 9 is worth the effort.

I've been traveling with a 6D and a choice of EOS film bodies. Lenses work on both and I have no problem jumping back and forth, they both shoot more or less the same.

This can help you appreciate what they were thinking about when they introduced the APS film format.
Of course, things diddn't evolve as expected.

It varies depending on where I'm going. Sometimes it's my iPhone and a David White Stereo Realist, and sometimes it's my Nikon D5100 and Speed Graphic 4x5. Sometimes it's my Mamiya C330 and Canon 70d.

Oddly enough, one thing I almost never do is take a film and digital camera body that can share lenses. It would make sense. But I never seem to do it.

I usually take Lumix G9 or one or two of a myriad of film cameras (more likely). Rarely both.

Might change Lumix to E-PL with 15 f8 pancake or pancake zoom.

Via airplane: F6, F2AS, and D800 w/17-35mm ,50mm 28-70mm, and a 80-200 jammed into a Domke F2.

Via automobile: As preceding, but substituting fast Nikkor primes (20, 28, 50, 85, 180, 300, 400) for the zooms, and adding in a Hasselblad kit (2 bodies and 6 lenses).

I stopped traveling by air with MF or LF film, when I drive and have room I carry Digital, Film 35mm, a MF, and 4X5. With news of the super airport scanners I would be concerned about having a box of 4X5 get fogged black. I can always buy 35mm but is not so easy finding MF or LF outside of a big city.

I was traditionally a Minolta shooter. For a trip when I plant take a lot of photos, I will take either my Minolta STsi or XTsi for film, as well as a Sony a65 for digital. I generally carry a Minolta AF 28f2.8, Minolta AF 50f1.8, and/or a Minolta 35-70f4 "minibeercan". It helps that all these cameras can use the same lenses.

If indicated, I will also take a Minolta Weathermatic Dual for underwater. I also will slip in a smaller camera such as an Olympus 35RC or Leica IIIc.

As you can tell, I own too many cameras.

If I'm on a road trip via automobile, I pack my full D7100 DSLR outfit, which includes the 18-70mm Nikkor zoom, 50mm Nikkor Prime, Nikkor 70-300mm, and Sigma 10-20mm, along with flash and assorted bits and bobs. I then grab one of my film outfits, depending on my mood and destination. These include a Rollei 3.5f, Hasselblad 500c with 50mm, 80mm, 150mm, and 250mm lenses with both prism and waist level finders, Leica IIIC outfit with 28mm and 35mm Russian lenses and 50mm, 85mm, and 135mm Leitz lenses, Rollei SL35/Pentax Spotmatic with lenses from 28 to 200mm, or my Zeiss Super Ikonta. Each of these has its own meters (mostly Luna Pro and Sekonic ), filters, and other duplicative accessories.

When flying, I generally take the D7100 and the two zoom lenses (sometimes the 50mm prime as well) if digital seems the best for my destination and likely shooting. If I'm in a filmy kind of mood, I'll either grab the Hassy and two or three lenses, or the Leica and three lenses. If I can't make up my mind, I'll often bring the Nikon plus the Super Ikonta.

What I bring along on any trip is always a function of what I expect to shoot when I get there.

What were they thinking? EOS lenses would have worked on APS cameras? You'd carry a 35mm and an APS?

No - the APS film size was intended to be the same size as the APS digital sensor size. Cameras were going to be quite small and able to share the same lenses.
The small APS film cameras came first. And then digital exploded, and the APS digital cameras ended up being relatively quite large.
I have a neat little Canon EOS 22-55mm lens that came out with the Canon APS SLRs. It is designed to be usable with both Canon EF, full frame mount (not EF-S mount - that didn't exist at the time) cameras and Canon APS SLRs.

6D is full frame. If I'm shooting full digital I carry an digital APS SLR as backup or alternate (wide angle lens is way cheaper for crop.)

The 6D plays well with 35mm film because swapping lenses or cameras gives me the same view.

But from what saying APS film SLRs were able to take 35mm SLR lenses?

All I need these days is a Fuji X100F. If I have it with me, I don‘t miss any other camera. Fuji built it for me and happen to sell it to others too. But just a few days ago some Canonet QL17 Giii found it‘s way to me. I am sure that if I have that one with me, I won‘t miss any other camera. Future will tell.

The APS SLRs were significantly smaller than your 6D.
Considerably smaller than an SL1 or SL2.
The Canon APS SLRs took the full frame 35mm SLR lenses.

EOS 30 and 6D for me, because of the common lenses. It's certainly convenient.

Can one theoretically slit down 35mm film to APS size to run through of of these APS cameras?

I don't think you can just cut down APS, the film is an cartridge, the cartridge is inserted in the camera and the camera loads the film for shooting. APS cameras don't have a back to open, is all automatic. As I recall the film has an magnetic coating that tells the camera what film it is, if the film as shot, or rewound mid roll. APS has one set of sprocket holes on the bottom, due to the size of film rather small and odd, a small then larger sprocket hole runs along the film. I guess you could cut the bottom and top off a roll 35mm, make a jig to cut the correct sprocket holes, but without the magnetic coating don't know the camera will recognize that a cartridge is n the camera and load the film. The lab used a detacher to remove the film from the cartridge for processing and printing, then the film was reloaded into the cartridge.
