1: Minolta X700
3: Minolta X300
7: Minolta XE (heavy as a brick) !
9 : Minolta SRT200

OM4Ti must be number 1, I've had a few OMs but never the OM4Ti and still have an OM10 and a couple of lenses.
Canon AE1 Prog number 2. Still using a T90 and F1N and have the lenses and accessories
Pentax MX number 3. Had the ME super and great brand in that era. The manual MX is a class act
Minolta x700 number 4. It is a great camera, often thought about going Minolta

They are all great cameras; you can't lose with any one of them, as long as it works properly!

If the OM4 is given, then 3 minoltas; XE, X700 and SRT200 - because they are just nicer cameras than any of the others.

Assuming all are 100% factory functional . . .
1. Olympus OM4 ti because it has the best metering of all manual focus cameras ever released.
2. Minolta XE because it has the smoothest film advance of all the manual focus cameras.
3. Canon FTb because it is robust and all that is needed to make a well exposed frame of film

Do you have lenses for any?
Anyway:
XE
X-700 (insert batteries and fire it thirty times. If it still works, chances are it will keep working).
MX
FTb if in good condition

OM4 is a frail fucker.
Don’t bother I’d say. You can get lucky, but you’re never sure.

You can feed pigs with SR-ts, so strap scratches is a no-no.
Great camera otherwise.
But XE and X-700 will tide you over.

The X300 is like brand new , my opinion was rocking between the x300 and the x700 but looks likei might keep both :D

i really love the OM4 ti , never thought its this leigh weight and good looking in person , it still in my ebay wishlist ! it came with a motor autowinder , but i have no lenses for it

Minolta XE
Canon FTb
Pentax MX
Minolta X700

any reason recommending the XE ?

They are all great cameras; you can't lose with any one of them, as long as it works properly!

all are working perfectly fine except the SRT200 , slow shutter speeds (2 - 4 and 8) locks the mirror up , the XE300 and the AE1 are in mint condition , zero scratches !

any reason for choosing the XE ?

Can I be friends with your friends?

haha sure :D

None of the above.

okay i will take none :D

All of them will work fine. I have an OM4Ti, but would not argue that you would make better images with it than any of the other cameras. Two features of the OM4Ti that I find helpful are spot metering and an adjustable viewfinder diopter.

I would pick a Minolta or a Pentax out of that list but as long as the camera you choose works well you will be just fine.

No matter how sophisticated the camera is, the lens is what makes or breaks the IQ quality. So I'd pick:
1- Canon FTb QL. It takes FD and FL lenses. The 85 1.8 FD SSC, one of the great portrait lenses in 35mm photography, as good as my Leicaflex 90 Elm. Tough camera for eyeglass folks, little eye relief, hard to see the whole frame
2- Canon AE-1. The AE-1P is more versatile by far, but it's bigger and heavier. Film advance feels like grinding walnuts, bright viewfinder
3 &4- Ck completed listings to see which of the 2 other cameras would fetch the highest prices, sell 'em, and get lenses for the Canons.
I need four 35mm SLRs like I need another hole in the head. Different camera systems means more headaches w/ duplicate focal lenghts, having to waste shots when you pick up a system you haven't used in a while, and more

Read up on the history of the XE.
It’s like an improved SR-t.
Smoother mechanics, including a fantastic shutter.
Exposure lock with half-press.
Great (real, as in not token as on the SR-t) low light metering.
CLC for what it’s worth (I like it).
Aperture Program.
Very well build.

My favorite Minolta Rokkor lenses are the f1.2 50 [58?] and the f/2.8 21mm.

any reason recommending the XE ?
XE was baseline for Leicaflex R3 if that has any value. But it is smooth feeling camera. It has one caveat though: over time advance lever comes loose. Fairly simple fix but when it happens film advance is not reliable anymore until fixed. It appears to be assembly issue as is rather common ( I have 4 bodies and 2 had that). Lever feels wobbly when this becomes a problem or is about to. Other than that it is one of top cameras from that era and I value it more than XD.

For those who recommend the Pentax MX, there isn't one there, it's an ME.

My list would be the OM4ti, the FTb, the XE and the X700. The last two only because I don't have them already and I prefer them to the others I don't have (AE1P and ME). I have lenses for all of them.

Indeed, my bad. ME is a fine camera, ME Super was a lot better, but MX was ahead of them both. Pentax lenses helped them all without a doubt.

Why ask what someone else would pick? You are the one to live with your choice.
However……I already have about 8 OM Zuiko’s, from 24mm to 200mm so my personal choice is decided.
