If you fend off Monkeypox, I walk about every morning, most the time I take a fixed lens rangefinder point and shoot. The 2 that I gravitate to are the Konica S2, yes the S3 is likely shaper but I can override the meter with S2, and for a point and shoot Chinon Infrafocus 35F-MA, with 35mm 2.8 takes 46mm screw in filters. No manual controls, but has distance scale that I use to make sure the camera single AF point is looking what I'm looking at. One drawback to the Chinon is that I need to put tape on the back when loaded with film to know it is loaded, no film reminder window. The the very rare occasion it rains I take a Pentax WR point and shoot. So something light, good lens, relatively fast lens with a decent meter.
It depends on the type of photography you are going to do. Street? Portraits? Architectural? Abstract? General? Color? Black & White?

You should probably always take a camera. The one time you don't, well, I ran into a guy walking a huge tortoise on a leash w/o mine. Lots more, I hate to think about all the shots I've lost due to not having a camera at hand.

I just got a $15 Pentax Zoom90. I'mma take that on my next walk, because it tickles me to shoot a camera that costs two rolls of film.
Take whatever camera tickles your fancy at the moment. Last time I had that mood I took my texas leica because I hadn't shot MF in a while and wasn't feeling prolific enough to shoot 10 or more frames.
$15 for a Pentax Zoom 90 is a really good price, Gen X and Y are spending up to $200 for clean working camera, I sold mine for $175. It is a decent walk about, light, pocketable, the lens although slow is sharp, meter is accurate with black and white and color negative film, never shot slides with mine.
That is one hell of a camera strap you've got there. Just how much does a Kodak Retina IIa weigh?This one:

VKO Wrist strap, $8.94 from Amazon. The camera weighs about a pound and a half, or in metric terms 600 grams. I like the strap because it's well cushioned and it's inexpensive. The Reveni meter has been replaced by a newer version that is also on a wrist strap so I can pull it out of my pocket, meter, then stash it away.
Hmm, you all make very good points.
I don't own a Sony so that rules out the disposable camera. But I think I have a black camera somewhere.
The Zoom 90 is so underrated. I have the WR version, that I think someone on this site just gave to me! I apologize in advance for not remembering whom.

That's the version I have. Even have a nifty Pentax Case for it.
It was a lark. "Used to work, but now it isn't" so I gambled. I fixed it by putting in batteries that weren't dead. It works great! Even the remote works well.
I'll pass it on soon enough. Like my work record, it's a fun enough camera, and light enough to haul with me anywhere. But I have some really nice cameras, so the biggest win is the feeling that I got a nice camera basically for free because someone couldn't be bothered to try fresh batteries.

For an idle stroll I prefer small cameras: compact rf cameras (Leicas and clones), Rollei 35, Retina folder, not to forget subminiature Minox. I use SLRs, MF etc for more purposeful photographic walks.
Not to slight the small lightweight Xa...almost unnoticeable in pants pocket.
No matter, as already noted above, the best pictures always show up when you don’t have a camera.

That's what I keep telling myself. For some reason, when I have my camera with me, there are no good photographs to take, which explains why I never have any good photographs. The only other possibility is that I need a better camera and more lenses.
