Another one to consider would be the 35mm 1.4 "Classic" - small, f1.4, good performer with a somewhat "vintage" look. I think a 40mm version exists too and it is even a couple hundred bucks cheaper than the 35mm.
I also recently bought a Voigtlander Ultron 40mm F2 SL2s in Nikon mount to replace my 35mm AFD which was defective (again, after already having been repaired 1-2 years ago). I have to say, I am impressed. It is an excellent walk-around lens. It also focuses down to around 25cm which even allows for "light macro" work. It seems that this lens will become permanently glued to my F3
Today I'm going to take my Canon EF, with the 35mm f2 Thorium lens.
For an idle stroll I prefer small cameras: compact rf cameras (Leicas and clones), Rollei 35, Retina folder, not to forget subminiature Minox. I use SLRs, MF etc for more purposeful photographic walks.
Not to slight the small lightweight Xa...almost unnoticeable in pants pocket.
No matter, as already noted above, the best pictures always show up when you don’t have a camera.
The Thorium? Thplendid.
I just got back from my walk, I can now take off my lead lined boxer shorts.
Leica q / Rolleiflex 3.5
What happens if you run out of film?I vote for the Nikon FM2. A purely mechanical shutter up to 1/4000, so no problem if your battery dies, and it's quite compact.
I always carry a ‘Manbag’ small shoulder sling bag ..
I always carry a ‘Manbag’ small shoulder sling bag as I’m getting old forgetful etc. It contains useful bits and pieces and wallet, car keys etc. plus loaded Olympus XA and a couple of spare rolls of film. It’s always there at work or socially so never get bored as always possibility of some film shots.
Over here we call those "European Carry-Alls"
I call them pants pockets and jacket pockets for those things other than a camera and camera equipment.
So you go to a store, point at bag and tell the clerk "give me pants pockets"?
What are you, a cave man?
I do not know the customs of your area, but here we are quite civilized and our pants have pockets.
Lemme guess, you're big into cargo pants?
Must be rough when ones masculinity is so fragile as to prohibit carrying a shoulder bag.
Anyway, if it's not convenient to wear a jacket or coat with enough pockets I carry a small backpack or a fanny pack but worn across the body.
Thinking of going for a walk. Unsure if I should take a camera, and if I do, what camera?
It's been a few walks. Took a Rolleiflex 2.8GX, Leica MP, Nikon F6, Kodak Ektar H35, Agat 18K, Leica M7, Olympus Trip 35, Fuji Work Record Pano, Nikon Lite Touch AF, Ricoh FF-1, Fuji Klassee W, Konica C35 (red), Leica M3 SS, Leica 1F, Rollei A110, Konica C35 (blue), Nikonos V (orange), Agfa Optima 1535, Chinon Bellami, Leica M-A, Leica R9, Hasselblad H1, Pentax Auto 110, Leica M5.Did you take the walk, what camera? and more important did you wear pants?
