I got this spool a while back with a bunch of other stuff. There was some reusable Contax cassettes in the lot but this doesn't look like a Contax take-up spool. On one end it has the knob for removing it from the camera but on the other end are 4 prongs. It doesn't work with a Leica camera either.

If the great depth of knowledge on Photorio can't recognize this spool it must be extremely rare!

More likely, it's something that's almost never seen separate from the camera. Have you checked it against Leica, Fed, Zorki, etc.?

I checked it against my Fed, Zorki, Kiev and Leica cameras, doesn't match. I only have Barnack Leica's but it doesn't look like any type of Leica spool I can find online. It's possible it's not meant to be removed but the design of it looks to me like it would be removable. The knob on one end looks like it's there to pull it out of a camera.

I don't have an Exakta but I did search online and it doesn't match any that I could find. The biggest difference is the four prongs on one end, most are flat on that end.

Could it have nothing to do with photography - something to do with fabric ribbon (as an example)?

Looks exakta, but that knob on the grab end looks wrong, and the other end, the one that engages with the camera, is also wrong for Exakta.

Hmmm. Ya know, I've got a French-made Foca here (Leica Copy) that I bet that would fit in perfectly. Mine is missing the take-up spool, too, so if ur interested in selling ..... drop me a line.

I think you're right, it looks like it goes to a Foca! Watch the linked video below starting at 1:50 when he puts the spool back into the camera. I'll send you a PM, it needs to be reunited with the proper camera.

That won't fit most cameras on the film cassette side, I think it's the fixed take up spool taken out of a camera, which I've no idea but not Leica/FED/Zorki, Contax/Kiev, Exacta, etc. I very much doubt it's meant as an interchangeable part.

that's very cool. My camera needs a spool. Only reason I've never had it serviced.

thanks!

It sort of looks like it belongs inside a film cassette but until it is actually tried in the Foca, we do no know enough to be positive.

ASIDE, I just got a hit warning of a 'finger printer software' running on this page, be careful.
