I sent my camera and lens to DAG to get them properly set up. I think there may have been problems with both. I think I paid $300-$400.

I kind of think that some people just have problems. Plenty of Leicas out there that are perfectly fine. I have an M3 that has never been opened. I even dropped it once. RF is still perfect.

Brad, you can do a quick crude check to see where your problem is. Get a tape measure and measure out a tiny object at a set distance that is on the focus scale of the lens. Measure from the film plane. Then set the lens to that distance and see if the rangefinder is off. If the rangefinder is off, then it is either the camera or the cam on the lens. If it matches, then you know it is the lens. Maybe someone took it apart and left out a shim. Who knows.

Hope that helps.

I've used 6 Summarit 50/1.5's, taken them all apart. The OP has stated the problem is using this lens at closer distances. If shooting wide-open, this lens will front-focus on any well-calibrated rangefinder. This is inherent in the design of the lens.

For the OP- as suggested, shoot a take measure- focus on the 5ft mark. Shoot at F1.5, F2, F2.8, and F4. Mount the camera on a tripod for this. Inspect the negatives with a Loupe to find the point of best focus for each F-Stop.

Thank you all. I’m out on the road for a few weeks so wiki try these suggestions when I get back home.

And don't leave the lens on 1.5. It might burn the curtain in no time.

???

Left in the sun, perhaps. Which shouldn't be done with any lens on any Leica. Not sure what you meant by this..?

Some years ago, we had "taken at 1.5" contest at small, dedicated to RF forum. I burned curtain in FED-2 (Canada), another (Germany) in Leica.
It was around February, March.
