According to the nikonlinks.com website this lens was made between 1973 and 1974. It has the same design as the earlier Nikkor S but improved coating. If it has not been modified it has the regular F mount. This means that it is made to fit pre-AI Nikon and Nikkormat cameras. These include the Nikkormat (also Nikomat) FT, FS, FTN, FT2, FT3, EL and ELW, Nikon F and F2. Some of these lenses were modified so that they would meter properly and fit on cameras which used the AI (Automatic Indexing) system. Nikon made replacement aperture rings for this lens and many of the other pre-AI lenses. The early AI cameras allowed you to flip up the metering tab so that pre-AI lenses could be attached. When this was done you had to meter in stop down mode. The Nikkormat FT3, Nikon EL2, Nikon FE, Nikon FM, Nikon F2 and Nikon F3 all had the ability to flip up the metering tab. By the time Nikon released its first mass produced AF SLR, the N2020, the flip-up tab had been pretty much discontinued. The F4 was Nikon's first mass produced pro AF SLR. To help photographers who had older non-modified lenses Nikon allowed the F4 to be modified so the metering tab could be flipped up.

The original replacement aperture rings are hard to find but older lenses can still be modified. I had a lens modified by John White at www.aiconversions.com. The 50/1.4 Nikkor SC is a very nice lens. If it's in good condition it will give you very nice results.
