somafm

my favorite thing to do while developing is . somafm.com. it is a commerical free internet radio station out of san francisco.
no dj,s and no commericals 24 hours a day. the station is broadcast out of a garage. by a ex software guy. and has over 10,000 cd,s. and It,s free!

my favorite is drone zone.
It,s great background music.

Whatever you're listening to, I hope it's on vinyl going through a valve/tube amp chain. No synths, but a Marshall stack is allowable. :rolleyes: This is an analogue refuge you know. ADMUG? (analog darkroom music users' group)

It's an early 1950's 5 tube (valve) Northern Electric model "Midge". The cosmetics are original with the exception of the gold lettering which I reapplied with a gold marker from a local artists supply shop. I restored the electronics myself completely including all new capacitors, and new resistors where they measured out of spec.

Back on topic now...

In the bath..er...darkroom I use a transistor radio because the tube set is AM only. I don't have a favourite music, but I do have a favourite station. I listen to CBC radio and it's been many years since they had a local AM station, so I listen to them on FM 91.5 here in Ottawa. It's a blend of all sorts of stuff. In the evening they have a couple of talk shows, but not "phone in", more documentary style. Interesting to listen to.

Very nice job, John. I figured the caps were dry by now. With the lighting on the photo, I thought it said National (as opposed to Northern), but couldn't find a "National Midge" anywhere. And I'd never seen a National table radio, so I was a bit puzzled.

I used to listen to an FM CBC station out of Windsor (I live in N. central Ohio), but a new local came in and drowned them out. I almost never listen to US commercial radio anymore. The big media giants have killed it. Three companies now own something like 70% of commercial Ohio radio stations. The other 30% are mostly religious or small local broadcasters.

I also used to listen to WRNO and KUSW, shortwave stations, in the darkroom before the fundamentalist religious broadcasters bought them out. I have also used CHU on 7.335 MHz to time astrophotos and as a darkroom metronome, but it gets repetitive after a while.

When listening to Hendrix' Electric Ladyland, I spooled the paper on to the spool instead of the film and only noticed after having gone through the series of processes ... ... What dope doesn't do for you even after not having taken them for years and years ...

I've been listening to two totally different styles lately: one would include bands like The Smiths, The Cure, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Nick Cave, etc. Then the other style is more like Children of Bodom, Norther, Absu, Mercyful Fate, and as always, some Danzig. And I always have the Ramones playing...

Oh, I forgot Cradle of Filth... I'm listening to their cover of "Fear of the Dark" right now. Also, I just saw Behemoth (from Poland) and Nile a couple weeks ago (King Diamond was supposed to play too, but someone in the band was sick- that really was upsetting, I wanted to see the King and Andy so badly).

Their Fear Of The Dark is great!

I have the seen King Diamond 5 or 6 times now and met the guy 2 times. Nice fellow...very down to earth when off stage

Could someone please compile a list of songs that are recorded in 60 or 120 bpm or perhaps some bebop at 240? Darkroom music (at least for printing) need to go well with my metronome set to 120bpm.
