I have the option to buy a lens I've been wanting to try out. It has marks on the inside barrel like the ones in this picture -- do they indicate damage of some kind?

Also the seller will do a full CLA before sending.

Thanks!

That's "Schneideritis". It's a common phenomenon. It's harmless.
To clarify, it's the black paint on the edges of the glass elements lifting off. The one possible danger, and it's a small possibility, is that this can expose the cement used to bond the elements together and eventually lead to separation, in a few decades.

I see such reflections at painted lens surfaces quite often. Sometimes I wondered if they had not been there from the start.caused by entrapped airbubbles at rough grindings.

I have a Fujinon lens with this. It does lower the value of the lens slightly. Great for the Buyer, bad for the Seller. Of course optical quality is still the same.

yup that's the edge blackening lifting off. They black the edges to reduce flare.
If you wear glasses you'll understand how it helps.
