I have a Kodak No. 5 Series D plate camera. On each side it has these twist nuts that seem to adjust some bracket on the inside of the camera. I am not sure if the part they controlled has been removed, or what is going on, but it is unclear what their purpose is.

I had read an advertisement for this camera that talked about the ability of the body to separate and do a sort of shift, and I think this might be for that, but I cant get it to come apart. When those nuts are loosened, I can get it to jiggle a bit, and it does feel looser, but its almost like there is some release I have to press that I am not.

I was hoping maybe one of you could shed some light on this for me.

Thank you for any help

Don't have the particular model, but in most cases these and comparable brackets are for adjustment of the sides in relation to the drop bed with the lens panel: in other words to be able to apply backtilt.
Your makes it even possible to apply backswing.

If you don't know where these settings/movements are used for, you better read first about the possible movements of the technical camera and perhaps about the Scheimpflug-principle:
