I'm an APUG guy, but they don't like scanner questions, so here I am.
I've been using an (admittedly lack-luster) Imagebox by Pacific Imaging. Originally it was bought solely for the purpose of digitizing some old negatives, just as a back up. It served its purpose.
I have found myself shooting more and more film (35mm), and now getting into 120, and at $10+/roll to have them scanned, it's going to cause a divorce in no time flat, so I figure I should invest in a MF scanner. I'm really looking to digitize only, with the occasional 8x10 or so print. For larger prints, my local mom & pop developing lab can actually do enlarger prints, or scans on an Imatest.
I actually have a V600 (refurb) on backorder from Adorama, but I have an opportunity to pick up a new in the box V500 for about 1/2 of the V600. My question is; is the V500 worth getting, or is the V600 a much better machine that I'll be happier with? Some of the info that I've been finding on the two are contradictory. Some say the V600 scans at a higher optical resolution, some say they are the same. Some info says the only difference between the two is ICE and other software related differences, but software is not something I'm concerned with, as I use LR5 and PS6 for editing.
Now before you all go telling me to get the V700 or a drum scanner, I would if I didn't have the local shop for high-end scanning and printing.
