I don't think it's an especially good deal. I only see one 4x5 enlarger, and it's a very old Beseler. They also don't look like they've been stored with care, which could mean bellows problems, condenser problems, missing holders/boards, etc. Stating that "two are 4x6 I believe" should raise red flags. I'd pass, and look for a single enlarger being sold by someone who has used it, knows its condition, and can assure you you're getting a complete system, including holders and boards.

It looks like a 300mm mortar from WW2. It would take up 3/4 of my darkroom.
Definitely not for me...but if you are good with enlargers, it might be a good deal...the stuff may not be as Bad As It Looks...maybe just some cleaning and minor Repair/Adjust.?

Even in good shape, and complete, I don't see $300 worth of enlargers there.

Wait three months then offer him $100. Pretty sure he'll still have them...

I have friends with 6 enlargers currently, plus a couple more not running.

I'm going to send them a link to this post .

I bought a photography school kinda similar craigslist ad but got 3 4x5 enlargers and 4 6x6 plus 6 or 7 sets of everything you need for developing for less than what they want for that "collection ". Id pass if I had an opportunity again, now what do I do with the 5 enlargers I dont need?

Looks like a lot of damage from improper storage and speciality parts like condensors and lens boards missing.

500 bucks maybe if everything complete and in mint condition. The way the enlargers are presented on the pictures, they should be free for Pick-up. And even that might be too much ...

As presented, it's not a deal. What might be a deal could be to go there, determine if there are carriers, lens boards, etc to come up with one working enlarger of the two 4x5's, plus a selection of the other stuff to make a working darkroom for perhaps $100.00 total. At that, it would only be worthwhile if you already have the knowledge to sort out what's what and evaluate the condition.

But it sounds like the seller has an inflated idea of the value, and the chances of making such a deal are probably not good.

If you were on this side of the country I could point you to a 4x5 Beseler in good working condition that's available for pretty much free.

It's a sad reality, but that's the way it is.

What a shockingly bad deal. Perhaps you could email the seller a link to this thread for a nudge in the right direction?

i'd make a house call, see if they are in working order and pay him the $$
then i'd rent a space and open a community darkroom. $500 is cheap for
a gaggle of working enlargers, and you could get more people interesetd
in darkroom work / enlarging.
if after you visit realize things are missing, bulbs are burnt out, covered with
debris or dust and in terrible shape, i'd pass.

Yes, it would be worthwhile to inquire about lenses and the other darkroom items included in the lot.

LOL this is funny.
apug is full of people who don't think 2x about buying lets say 10 cameras at once.
some even have like 3 complete camera "outfits" with 20 or 50 lenses in each
and multiple bodies ( look at the nikon love pages ) and it is strange to buy a handful of enlargers ?

Wonder what that one in the very back is? Did you get a gander at the size of that baseboard? Wow. Oh, never mind, I'm actually looking at the two baseboards of #5 and #6 together.

I know, they want way too much in all probability, and the lenses and negative carriers are usually AWOL or crap on stuff like this, but non photographers have no idea on the prices of stuff. They think it's gold because they just don't know.
