What’s on my lens?

I bought this lens (Summicron Rigid V1) a week ago and was advised that it had been cla’d at the beginning of November. He sent me the email from YYe stating that it was clean and clear.

When I received it I noticed what you can see on the upper left corner of the lens in the above picture. The seller stated that it’s probably just a smudge that can be cleaned, but it is actually in one of the inner elements.

I’m more worried that it is separation, but wanted to get some feedback from you guys.

Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like damaged coating due to fungus, given the shape and the hue shift.

It would not have any impact on image quality, in my experience.

It does not look like separation. It looks like it is a dried spot of cleaning fluid, which is removable.

I would contact Youxin about it. If you paid a premium for perfect glass- it's worth having him set it straight. There is an off chance that it is into the coating- that happens on Leica glass of this vintage. Oil, even fungus, can get into the coating. I have removed fungus from a lens and had it leave a spot something like this. Without inspecting first hand, impossible to be sure.

Thanks everybody for your help here.

The person I bought this lens from contacted Youxin and Youxin said send it in and he’ll take care of everything for free.

Just shows how good of a guy YYe is.

Youxin is the best- friendly and stands behind his work. I've sent him a lot of Leicas, a 1940s Nicca, and early Leotax D-IV.

I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews about other repairmen and repairwomen, but I don’t think I’ve ever read anything bad about Youxin.

He's relatively local to me so I took my IIIc to him for an issue, and he was extremely helpful and friendly, and taught me to do a couple things myself (in this case around adjusting the rangefinder) while I was there. Can't say enough nice things about him.
