What is the creature appearing as a shadow in the background that looks as if it is about to eat what looks like a shadow of a large water tower? If that's a scanning artefact then I'm glad I still have my enlarger

that's howI see it too!Are you referring to the regular pattern of rows and columns seen as horizontal rows and vertical columns?
That is an aftifact of bad scanning and/or a bad digital printer-- most likely bad printer-- and has nothing to do with defects in your film emulsion.
Based upon OP description, it is Hybrid workflow, neither purely analog nor purely digital.Honestly, this whole thread is off topic -- it's a digital image, printed digitally. Mods, can you move this thread to a digital section?
