whoops! (embarrased smiley) map reading was never my strong point!

It's easily done as East Gill Force is marked but not named on the 1:25000 OS map. I recall someone making the same mistake in an issue of "Best of Friends" once, but that is easily capped by a picture of Barmouth Beach in "BoF" entitled "The English Summer". Barmouth is in Wales ...

I would avoid percentages as the layout becomes fluid and text columns which read best with approx 8-10 words a line, will expand to many more words a line on high res screens. They then become more difficult to read because your eye finds it difficult to scan to start of next line.

Hi, very elegant website with great photos. The thumbnails can be enlarged a bit and compressed to 20K or less (using save for web in photoshop). I think one small thumbnail I saw was 100K.

thanks Jon - good point.

i got that Derek - cheers

the centred page looks much better but that has introduced a bug on the biography page in IE6 on W2k where all the text is also centred.

if you put this code in the TD tag which contains the text on that page, the problem is resolved in IE6 on W2k

style="text-align:left;"

thanks once again percepts - I'll sort that out. I run firfox with no issue, but just tried it on EI and as you say, all centred!

Looks good under Windows Vista Ultimate, IE7.

Just one comment, my laptop is running 1280 x 800 (widescreen), and there is a lot of whitespace between the header (and menu) and the page numbering. It causes the image to be half visible. I would delete at least two of the paragraph markups.

percepts makes some good comments, and I won't add to them.
