Alex,
I have a couple of observations. The first is that the I think that a larger single image on the galleries page may be more impressive than the two small thumbnail size images on that page.
Second on that same page the individual galleries would be more effectively identified with either larger font...different font...bold font...different color or something to identify them as links.
The wording of that page could be strengthened by more concise and positive wording...case in point..."I am striving to do it justice in Black & White."...A more effective wording could be something along the lines of "I am the pre-eminent photographer engaged in producing an archival record of this national resource.". In other words you are "doing" it and not simply "striving". The rest of the wording on that page could be strengthened. Another example would be to identify the scope of the Flint Hills in terms of square miles in terms of a distinct number value. I would suggest this since this would have far greater impact then the more nebulous and indefinite statement that you used "stretching nearly the entire width of the State"
Use power words and power phrases in your wording. If you need help with this, let me know.
I would think that each of the thumbnails would be best if it were linked to it's own image page. The larger images have more impact and are more representative of your work.
On the grain elevator page...again, the wording could be stronger, more concise, and more illustrative of why these images are unique...that they are recording a definitive aspect of a passing era. Again, links to full size images from your thumbnails would make your site stronger.
Your gallery page on Scenes from the Heartland has no wording describing what these images are, why they are important, or what they represent in terms of historical content. Links to larger images from the thumbnails would help in my opinion.
The same considerations apply to your other galleries. I would think about combining the still life and Polaroid pages into a single gallery of Still Life Images...with the polaroid image identified as being different in that gallery. My thinking is that the size of a single gallery would be more impressive with this presentation. It would be nice to almost combine the abstract images into the floral images and identify them as recent work. Doing so would give the impression of a more complete body of work...something that has been ongoing for awhile...while a single image in a gallery poses questions about your dedication to the pursuit.
Your wording on the personal page could benefit from some revision. You begin in wording it in the third person and then move to the first person singular in the second paragraph. In my opinion the Personal page should be broken down into three separate pages...the first being a bio page. The second being a page of notable recognition by the photographic community, and the third being a page on the specific techniques that you use to produce images of enduring value....How many people really know what ABC or Pyrocat are...or for that matter what Azo is.? Not many I would imagine.
I think that the page labeled Places is misnamed. It would best be described for what it is...It could be more accurately be named "Links" or some other such name that is more indicative of what is found there.
Your sales page could benefit from a description of how one can purchase a print. How do I contact you? What about shipping charges? On the one hand you say that you do not believe in limited editions and yet on the other hand you have a tier pricing schedule. Which is it? Tier pricing or no tier pricing? Do you offer your prints mounted and matted? Do you offer framing?
These are things that I notice. Of course you may have differing opinions. I mean no disrespect and I offer only suggestions that I think would be helpful.
Good luck,
Donald Miller
