You meant lavender oil and beeswax - Renaissance wax is to be used by itself, right? I have been doing some research on waxing salts myself lately and I came across this (Dorland Wax Medium,) which I am thinking of getting some and try:
Lavender/beeswax approach seems a little too complicated to me, although that is the classic one per history books.
Renaissance wax is a mixture of micro crystalline was and white spirits.
Instead of using lavender oil as a solvent, you can make your own wax paste with white spirits.
1 part beeswax yellow or white mixed with 2-3 parts artist grade white spirits on a hotplate (never on a stove with flame) will result in a creamy Renaissance wax like mixture.
Coat the paper with this mixture and you can apply multiple coats. Let it air for a day or tow. All the white spirits will evaporate.
