I standardize on 2 min for RA4 steps (except rinses), which allows the fill and drain part to be proportionately minor; and my own drums, even the big 30X40 inch ones, fill and drain much faster than the Jobo variety, and are better insulated too. But I think partially exhausted chem is likely to be a far more common complaint issue in RA4 predictability than solution temp, which is pretty easy to keep within bounds unless someone is just so cavalier that they don't regard it as a real factor.
