the film has been exposed but not developed , is it any good ? or did the water and tide kill the images on it.

No big deal was just wandering .

Washed? Fresh water, sea water? I'd pre-wash it in distilled water in the tank before developing it but do give it a try, don't throw it out!

tide=clothes washing detergent, I think you means (no capitalization). If you were just referring to "washing" the film in water, then it's nothing but a water bath which wouldn't cause any problems unless temp was very elevated. But I understand from the post that the roll of film went through a washing machine. I personally don't know what the active or inactive ingredients in Tide would do to film emulsion, but I can't think it did the film much good. Actually, you are in the perfect position to find out for all of us -- go ahead and develop it (you don't have any alternatives) and report back what you find.

Clothes washer?

Hard to say.

Detergent is a base, that might actually have started to develop the film.

If nothing else, you'll need to wash the residue of the detergent off the film.

I'd also be worried about cracking the emulsion. If you really want to try and save it -- assuming it's B&W or something you can tank process yourself, I'd try the following:

Either:

Spool it onto a reel, and pre-soak it in distilled water, before developing (you might reduce your dev times 20% or so just in case it did start to develop in the soap)

Or, if 35mm, carefully soak the canister in distilled water in a plastic container, then wet load it onto a stainless reel, and develop as normal.

I'd use a one-shot developer so you can toss it after this, so as not to risk contaminating your developer, although the pre-rinse should help.

Thanks for the quick replies , yes it was washed in Tide detergent (no bleach) and already went through the rinse cycle and spin dry. I'll have it developed and post some images either tomorrow or the next day stay tuned. I have never developed my own so am not really familiar with the process entirely.

Well here are the images after the roll of film was washed with Tide detergent , rinsed and spun dry .

I little more background , was going through some old clothes and found a jacket I could still wear . I through it in the washing machine with out checking the pockets, ( with 3 kids you would think I knew better) Any way with out doing anything else to the roll I took it in for development. they said it was still wet but ran it anyway . Here is the results . These were test shots taken some 3 years ago , was testing an SRT I got . shot posted came from front middle and end of roll. We had some color shift and spotting. It was an interesting experiment I don't intend on doing again.

I see nothing wrong except some specks and flakes on the film.

Pretty cool, over all.

There's some pretty bad staining on the first frame, look at the left half.

That said, not too bad, considering. The results are actually better than I expected, given that the detergent would have either washed out some of the dye, or started to develop the film.

This is very useful information if you have a wife like mine who as soon as you take a garment off you're body washes it.
