The foam needs replacing and there is some nasty separation in the lenses. Just shot a roll of film through it and I am amazed at the sharpness and contrast, even though it was a dull day.

When I get a chance I will scan a couple of frames and post them.

Seems someone had donated the camera to our church years ago and remained at the bottom of a filing cabinet for who knows how long. I replaced the battery and the meter works! Reads a stop low but what the heck.

So far a fun camera to use. The focusing is certainly easier than my XA.

If you would like a pair of auxillary w.a. and tele lenses with finders and a uV filter for it I have a set free except for postage.

I had to pay $5 for mine . They are great cameras. John Goodman ( jgood21967@aol.com) or "interslice" on Ebay sells a pre-cut foam replacement kit for the QL17 complete with detailed instructions. It costs $12 plus $1 postage. John

John also sells a reasonably priced and really elegant battery adapter that lets you use inexpensive 675 hearing aid batteries in your QL17.

He should probably be encouraged to offer a package deal

Agreed, fantastic little camera. I just picked up one a few months ago - it was my first rangefinder. After shooting SLRs for years, it was a pleasure to shoot. I'm using interslices battery adapter and have a light seal kit but haven't had an opportunity to use it yet - there always seems to be a roll in the camera.

I have used his kit on two other cameras. I was skeptical at first about how much better it could be than doing it yourself, but I'm a believer now.

I also have a 28 in good condition but don't really have a justification for holding on to it. I'll probably try selling it in the near future.

I also enjoy shooting the QL17. Mine would definitely benefit from new seals (they're getting quite sticky) but so far, no light leaks. I guess I'll deal with it when I deal with it

It's quiet and I like the quick load and the lens is decent. I'm not 100% sold on the bokeh but for the $25 I paid for it, well worth it.

It's not only the light leaks you have to worry about, if a piece of that old foam gets into the mechanism of the camera it could cause problems. John

Nice score. I picked up my QL17L at a thrift store and replaced the light seals with self adhesive felt from the craft store. It's like 2 bucks for a sheet and it's enough to probably re-seal about 50 cameras  I've done at least 5 or 6 cameras with no issues.

Anyone tried the Velvet part of your film cassettes? This is what I used to my QL17 GIII.
Just what Time Freeze said, just be careful with the pieces.
