Wards 8mm Color Film - Anyone Familiar?

Does anyone know whether this film is K11 like Kodachrome or E5? (I know it's K12 and E6 now but it's old)

if it were kodachrome it would say so, so my guess is it's an ektachrome/agfachrome clone of some sort, probably made by 3-M, which made a lot of that rebranded film back then.

See, that's what I thought at first too, but it says on the box that it HAS to be sent to Wards for processing. And I know Kodak Licensed out Kodachrome clones to use the K10 and K11 systems when they moved on to K12-14. But then, as you say it could well be E5 or 6. I'm hoping someone who's actually developed some can chime in.

I believe it to be an "old" Kodachrome. When Kodachrome moved to a higher ASA they licensed out the "old" stuff to firms like Wards. You paid for processing when you bought the film so it had to go to Wards because Kodak wouldn't process it for nothing for you. I used it for 35mm still photography and for 8mm movie film. It is very high quality. I think I have two 8mm 50 foot rolls I never got around to processing. C'est la vie.

I note that the box expressly says that processing is not included.

Are there any indications on the box as to what vintage this film is? A "process before" date?

Yes. Process before 22 April 1966

I am fairly sure it isn't a Kodachrome process, but if it were it would have been K-12 in 1966.

And I think it would have been E4 if it had been an Ektachrome compatible process.

Thanks! Well since I won't be coming by any Kodachrome chemistry ... ever, I'll just have to process a strip in E6 to see if I get anything.
