I'm looking for some 3¼ x 4¼ inch sheet film holders in good user condition for my newly acquired press camera, at less than collectable prices.

I can also handle repairs of these if in need of reasonable repairs, so everyone, let me know what you've got and I'll get back to you ASAP.

There are many variations of Quarter plate sheet film holders, in terms of fit. You need to be specific.

Eli, I assume you have a Speed or Crown Graphic. If that's the case, the kind of holder you need depends on the back you have. Regardless, though, you can probably get a couple of holders that fit on ebay for ~$20 shipped.

Here, you'd have to say if you have a spring back or a graflok back.

And a quarter-plate is 3.25x4.25.

I don't know if there's a film-plane offset difference between the holders, but ones for a spring back won't work in a Graflok back.

The terms you want for the backs and holders are "Graphic" (AKA spring back) vs "Graflex" vs "Graflock". The differences are discused/depicted in these links.

Anyway, Eli, get Riteway or Lisco or whatever holders without the slots in the edges.

Some cameras use metal plate/ film holders, I have various QP press cameras that use these, two or three that take book form holders. Others inc some Graflex cameras use slotted wooden holders.

I had quite a few of the holders you need, marked Graflex, but I sold them 2 years ago, and anyway postage to the US is way more than they are worth on top. These are cheap as chips at camera fairs, swap meets etc. Reality is no-one wants them, except the odd fools like us.

Maybe the one that sold here a couple months ago? I was very relieved when somebody finally bought that. Having two seemed silly, but that one was nicer than mine - and cheap. I think these are a great bargain. It is astonishing how much lighter they are than later models. And more compact. I liked the 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 so well I picked up a Pre-Anniversary 4x5 to, but the 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 is still my favorite. I take mine out in a shoulder bag on my bicycle rides sometimes. The 4x5 too, but that is a much more noticeable load.

Good luck with yours. A lot of people are dismissive of the format, and I use to be. 5x7 film can sometimes be a cheap way to feed it.

I agree, I purchased a whole 3X4 Crown Graphic kit with the case, film holders and flash two years ago for $150.

Yes, I bought this a few months back on photrio.com and am very happy with it, it's as near perfect as a camera this old can be and then some.

It came with a 135 Jena lens in shutter, which works well and the focal plane shutter sounds right on, though I've yet to test it out.

The 4"x5" I have is a beater, but I used it as a barrel lens machine, long ago with models on location and it gave great shots, despite not having a rangefinder.

I have plenty of 4"x5" holders and even ten or a dozen 5"x7"s but not yet the 3¼" x 4¼" holders, though I have had an offer I still have to respond to, so i hope to put it in action soon.
