It never ceases to amaze me how many photographers whose names i am not familiar with, yet i have seen MANY of their pictures. He was a member of the New York Photo League. "Girl On A Swing" captures my heart.
THAT is an interesting topic in itself. They had quite a few female members that i probably "should have" mentioned before i posted about this man.
They were an incredible group of people. I would give my eye teeth to be able to say i was a member of The Photo League.

This reminded me of a show on the Photo League that I saw in NYC a few years back, so I went looking for it... turns out it was more years than I had remembered. Time flies! < sigh >

Good Heavens.....when i read the first headline, i thought Wow.! ..... how old is this guy.?
Then i saw the 2011-2012 dates.
Just goes to show the importance of context and reading "The Whole Thing"

Anyway -
Yeah, i have that Radical Camera book. It is wonderful.
I will have to keep on the look-out for an "Affordable" copy of The New York School.

Rosenblum made prints for years from Lewis Hine's negatives and signed Hine's name to them and sold them as original prints by Hine. One of the worst art forgery scandals in the history of Phootgraphy.

When Louie Stettner, myself and a bunch of other photographers initiated the Photographers Forum in NYC. Walter was one of the members and I met him at meetings. Just intuition on my part, but I was never able to warm up to him. Seemed to me to be a little arrogant and somewhat pompous. On the other hand Louie liked him, but then Louie liked everybody.
I could very easily believe Walter would have committed fraud.

He was never found guilty of fraud or even charged. However, he did win the SIlver Star, Bronze Star, Presidential CItation, and Purple Heart in battle during WWII. There's proof of that. Meanwhile he's dead and can't defend himself from speculative charges here from people who have no personal knowledge of the case.

His photos are great.
The other stuff.....i don't know. It is real lousy if it is true, but there are many unanswered questions.
How often was "It" done and where did that money go........ etc etc

His daughter... is it Nina...Is/Was a pretty successful producer of Film/Television. She won several awards and is a voting member of the film academy, i think.
At any rate, she has done quite well for herself.

You are welcome.

Though, i have a feeling my taste in photography somewhat mirrors my taste in music.
Pretty much the Golden Age of Blues/Rock .....circa 1950-1980.
I like "everything".....from Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey to Duran Duran and Brad Paisley, but you know what i mean.
I tend to stick to all those old pros from Time, Life. Magnum.....and the fashion photographers from Vogue and Harper's circa 1950-1980

But Wow..!!!
Those Guys/Gals from The New York Photo League..... they really had it going on.
