I'm trying to fix a Chinon XL555 Super8 camera. It takes 4 AA batteries, but it is supposed to have a removable battery holder case which slots into the handle. I am missing this case, and I cannot find anything about the voltage of the camera, so I don't know whether they are wired fully in series for a total of 6 V, or partially in parallel.

I tried connecting 2 batteries in series, and the motor turns on 3 volts, but it does not function completely as expected. It's not clear to me if there are other issues, or if the camera expects to be running on 6 V. I tried looking for a proper manual, but I only found a pictorial manual here:

Any advice before I let the smoke out?

The S8 cameras I am aware of didn’t run with anything less than 6v. And you kinda have your answer with the 3v getting the motor to run. Have fun, long live S8!
