I picked up an inexpensive Bessa 1 because I was looking for a 6x9 folder. Overall, the cosmetic condition is superb, and everything works (well, except the 6x4.5 red-window selector). Needs a bit of CLA on the shutter, unsurprisingly.

The real problem is that there's a rivet missing, and as a result, there's a light leak into the film take-up spool area.

Anyone dealt with this type of problem? Did you manage to replace the rivet, or am I likely to find a screw and nut combination that fits?

I've considered that, or even some filler putty painted black-- but I have this sneaking suspicion that this missing rivet is responsible for the door being sluggish to open.

When you press the front release button with the camera closed, it doesn't want to open. If I open the film door, then press the button, the front opens easily. I suspect there's a slight distortion of the frame, and my guess is it's related to the missing rivet (since it's right next to the release mechanism).

Well, THAT'S embarrassing! Rule #1... pay attention. At some point, the camera was dropped, and the bottom plate was bent so slightly you can't tell without looking at it under strong light at an angle. Then I saw the scuff marks on the bottom of the door.

Some slight pressure applied with a plastic tool, and it opens / closes much easier.

Gaffer tape it is!

Thanks all.
