Hello all
I have just aquired a Voigtlander Avus with Skopar lens, Compur shutter, sheet film holders and a RADA back. Unfortunately the front standard , and therefore the lens, is not parrallel with the film back. I have had a good look and can't see any obvious adjustment, save for bending the "sled" at the base of the standard (the bit that holds the standard to the rails).
As it is the top of the lens leans back slightly towards the camera body. There is no play in the rails or the "sled" once the spring clamp has been released.
Hope someone can stop me taking pliers to precision machinery.
Thanks

Pliers will make it worse - lens alignment is a tricky and precision task, uneven alignment is a very common problem in folding cameras. I would look into professional service if you have a strong inclination to hold onto the camera, or return it if you can't abide the money/time sink. If the problem was not disclosed you might consider asking for a partial refund.

Fortunately, folding cameras are often less complicated for professionals to work on so you should be able to find someone who can do it.

Thanks for your reply. The price was £25 all in so I think asking for a refund is just plain rude! I do have quite a bit of experience with folders but was just wondering if anyone had solved this problem themselves. Its not quite as duanting as a normal folding camera as the ground glass gives an easy way to "check youre work".
As I said I cant find any method of adjustment without bending, or a beveled shim but was hoping to hear from someone that had already found the "the best way". Thanks Jim Hallett
