Anyone out there tried the Voigtlander 40/2.8 Heliar LTM? Now that it’s been out a lil while I’m interested to hear some long-ish term user experiences. With no other 40mm ltm options it’s cool that one was put on the market, but never had a chance to try it

I have it in M mount. Exact same lens. Super sharp. Fantastic flare resistance. Bad ergonomics - changing the aperture moves the focus and at min focus your thumb will be in the vf as it only has that little knob to adjust focus.
Almost impossible to find filters for it. Lovely build quality.

Thank you for the share! Super helpful to see the Flickr album you have for that lens too

It is an excellent lens, just remember to set exposure first, then focus. If you try to change exposure via the aperture ring after you focus, you will need to focus again.

It's actually why this lens works best on an AE camera, like a Leica M7. Set aperture to f8, then let the camera adjust to changing light conditions if speed is of the essence.

I would use it on my CLE and that has AE. Also 40mm VF frame lines.

I have a MS Optics 50 sonnetar. It also has fiddly focus and aperture action. It is annoying.

Heliar seems a good lens with some cons.

Would be very nice on the compact CLE as it is a tiny lens.

I could have guessed that (maybe) but not very familiar with that lens , especially LTM. I think my Rollei 35s has a 40 mm collapsible sonnar on it...now that I think about it.

Apparently it is the exact same lens, but re-housed.

K, Here's another longer thread about the Heliar 40mm. https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/new-cv-40mm-2-8-heliar.191078/
I took one to Europe this summer mounted on a Leica CL. Except for 5 days where i had a Pentax 645 loaner, i used the Leica/Heliar combo exclusively. As mentioned the M & LTM versions are identical. It does take a bit of work to source 34mm filters. It is a very nice lens overall.
