Voigtlander 35mm LTM lenses

I have a Canon 7s and I’m looking for a 35 mm LTM lens. Right now I am down to either a 2.5 Color Skopar or a 1.7 Ultron.

I like the laters faster speed. I do want a sharp lens with vivid colors. Not looking for anything with a vintage look.

Anyone have any input?

As these lenses are on the market for a while now, wasn’t this question already answered???

I have the 28/1.9 and it is a little hazy as well. For a while there, Cosina really dropped the ball with their optical cement.

I have V1 of the M-mount 35mm f/1.7 Ultron and it’s razor sharp. I don’t know if the LTM version is optically identical, but if so, it’s a gem.

Does anyone know the chronology? Was the Ultron made before the Skopar? Maybe the Skopar is less prone to hazing?

I have both the Color Skopar f2.5 and Ultron f1.7. Both are really good lenses, certainly good enough for Fp4+ which I usually use them with, I am quite happy with both. When used with color film both are quite neutral. All in all Ultron might have a bit more contrast. Neither is a vintage lens by any means, they are quite modern lenses and the renderition is clean and sharp in both. Nothing vintage about that. Ultron is a bit heavier but Canon 7s balances just fine with it. I can recommend both lenses. If You need the faster one, fine. But Color Skopar is also a fine lens. As for vivid colours, that of course depends on the film, but those lenses definitely do not subdue the colours.

You might want to consider the Canon 35mm f/2. The older f/1.8 is considered a vintage lens. The f/2 is more modern and contrasty. Might not be quite what you are looking for but I thought I would mention it. Also I think Light Lens Lab made their 35mm Summicron redo in LTM. Might be more than you want to spend though.

It is a shame that Voigtlander stopped making LTM lenses. Some of the modern ones are fantastic. They really should have LTM as an option even if it costs more.

Congrats on the Canon 7. Most underrated camera out there. Everyone discounts it because it isn't a Leica, but it is basically just as good for making pictures. I have two, one that has been completely redone, and the redone one is smoother than any other camera I own, including my late M3.

Can you recommend someone for a 7s CLA? Meter works but is off.

Or just make them all as LTM and include an adapter. I haven't seen anything to imply an LTM lens with an adapter is less accurate or deficient in any way. I know TTArtisan did that with a portion of their 28/5.6 lens a couple years ago (now they're all M-mount).

I don't unfortunately. If you know how much it is off just compensate. One of mine is off by a stop or so. I just change the ISO so it is accurate. If you are going to shoot transparency film then use a good light meter. With color neg you just have to make sure you don't underexpose and you will be fine.

The Canon probably won't be as poppy as the Voigtlanders but it is still sharp and contrasty. A little smoother in rendition. People really like them. Ain't called a Japanese Summicron for nuttin'! If you want a super modern look though get a Voigtlander. You can check them all out on Flickr of course. I used to have the f/1.8 Canon but that wouldn't suit what you want. Nice lens though. Wish I didn't sell it. I only have Zeiss and a 7Artisans lenses these days for the Leica. Wish they were LTM mount though....
