Vignetting Old Lens 4x5 Sinar Norma

Hi,

I shot a very tall tower with my Old Caltar Type-S 150mm f5.6 lens and used maximum front rise. It came out well, but for a little vignetting on the top corners. Would it be better if I buy and reshoot with a Fuji Fujinon CM-W 150 f/5.6? That's an alternative I can afford.

When I'm in that situation, I tip the camera up to make the negative and do this when printing. None of my wide angle Large Format lenses are 'super wide' coverage. Wide coverage lenses are nice but not needed.

If you ask me, in many ways this is the better way to control converging verticals. For example does one want to spend 30 minutes in the field setting up the shot, or 30 minutes in the darkroom setting up the enlarger? How about the sky? Doing it this way does not darken the sky as the sky will be farther from the enlarging lens. How about resolution? In this method the camera uses the center, high resolution portion of the image field. In my print the top of the bridge is just as sharp as the rest of the image. And, of course the grain is sharp over the entire print, due to tilting the enlarging lens (Scheimpflug principle).

Hi Darryl, been a year, have you purchased another lens? You mentioned max. rise, what about f-stop? Some lenses need smaller than f16.

I would consider something in the 100-135mm range. Fuji made a 125mm with a large image circle:
