Is this a good magazine with real information and how to type articles?

Note to author: Might want to pull on that old flame-proof jumpsuit from the back of the closet and fill a nearby bucket with some nice, friendly, cool water...

Yes. It's full of good info. The magazine covers all aspects of view cameras including old and alternative processes as well as digital gear. It's published by Gene Simmons who has a good reputation in the view camera world. Great magazine.

I've always had the impression that he was kind of a crude guy and had no idea he was interested in photography.

No, that's Steve you're thinking about.

There's a lot of portfolios, some good tech stuff and occasionally a good how-to piece. I think Steve leaves that for his book, which is good as well.

Or, and this is a valid option, take some of that money and buy some film and sink the rest into APUG if you are not adverse to supporting online communities. Most of the information you will seek is either here or over at LFPF as mentioned above.

And I have had Minor White's little book, amongst a drove of others, for years and my first spot meter is now only in the mail on its way to me. One of those is not a pre-requisite to understanding and using the info in White's book.

GJA... there are many of us LF users in the New England region. Bruce Barlow has hosted some "Kick the Tires" gatherings to introduce LF photography to noobies. He posts the info here on APUG when a gathering is approaching.
Some of us NE-APUGers gather from time to time and would love to show off our LF cameras. And finally, there is the New England Large Format Photography Collective (NELFPC) that hosts gathering. Again, keep an eye out here on APUG for info about NELFPC.
