Vericolor Slide Film

Hi All,

I have an opportunity to purchase some Vericolor slide film. I have read the Kodak technical publication but I am hoping that some of you had used this stuff in times past. I am wondering how you used it to good effect.

If you have an experiences with Vericolor Slide film, please share them with us.

I assume you mean the 35mm c-41 film made for making transparencies from negatives?

I used this in the past for interior arch shots to bypass using tons of lighting and filtration to get a nice color correct trans. I would shoot the orig on NPS and the lab would contact that to vericolor print film and create the transparency. The film is a clear base neg film (c-41) for making transparencies from negatives. This saved me huge time on site and the client got a transparency as a final product.

Most incompetant labs couldn't handle the material and it was hard to get a good print film made. I did have a lab in Baltimore that specialized in doing these but they are long gone as is the material. I have actually done them before, it's like making a print to film hence its called print film in large format. In 35mm it was called vericolor slide film just to confuse everyone.

Now if this is the material you refer to shooting the stuff in camera is another deal altogether. I would assume its very very slow and it does not have the orange base of regular neg film.

It is not very good shot in-camera, as it was not intended for that purpose.

It has been out of production for a long time and did not have the greatest keeping in the world, so I would guess it is out of date and not very good.

This film is fun to play with. It tried solorization in C41 process since it does not have the orange mask. I have made 4x5 trans from negatives by treating it as color RA4 print material and then processed it in C41. I have also cross processed the film in E6, that works great to. I don't have any examples, but I tried this all out about 5-6 years ago when I worked as a tech in a pro lab. I miss those days, it's all digital and not as fun these days.

I still have some 4x5 and I think a roll of 35mm somewhere.

Yes, that is correct. I want considering picking up a few rolls but it sounds like, based on the input I've received, that it's not likely to work out well for me.
