Velvia (scanned) so red

Today I received a roll of developed Velvia 100 film from the lab, took a while but anyway. On the roll through a window the film looked fine. But scanned with my Plustek 8200i and VueScan revealed this:



With some colour correction in Affinity Photo it looks fine:



Is this the film, the development, or my scanner because I don't have access to an IT8 card and profile? Or all of the above?

If the film looks fine thru the "window" or on a light table using a loupe the scan process I suspect is lacking for some reason. I've found the V-50 & V-100 lean toward red / magenta and Provia toward blue / cyan. I never worry about it as I always color correct in PS. It does require using a color managed monitor for best results. I can usually set a true black and white point and work from there to obtain the look I want. It can take time but it's the process that works best for me.

I'm using curve adjustments to remove red and blue and some green out of the scans, and I think I could have removed more out of the scanned photo. But I'm still learning, so mistakes are always an (likely) option.

I find that VueScan and a 8200i work very well with E100 and Provia, but struggle with Velvia for some reason. My work-around for that is to scan with no color correction, or with "neutral" color correction and then load the images into PhotoShop and use the "levels" tool (command-L). Looking at the histograms, the problem seems to be that the "black point" for the red channel is not at zero. By selecting the red channel and moving the far left control so that the leftmost portion of the curve reaches the far left of the window, this generally fixes the issue.

I have done it so often that it comes naturally to me, but I may not have described it well. This one tiny correction is much easier that playing with curves.

I rescanned the frame with "Restore fading" active and I got the image I saw when I looked at the film with a loupe.

If the film looks fine, then it's your scanning. I have no reds from scanning Velvia 50. I select the black and white points for the entire image during the scan using Epsonscan on my Epson V600 and V850 scanners. I do not set each of the three color levels separately. Maybe that's the problem.
